The Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, to approve the Fiscal Year 2023 budget revision.

Jacob Harmon, the district’s chief financial officer, shared the estimated limits for maintenance and operations, the classroom site fund and the district’s capital spending at a regular meeting on April 12.

The $76 million proposed M&O budget includes everything from transportation to teacher salaries.

Harmon calculated about $1.5 million would go toward raises and new positions across the district – including adding three counselors, an instructional coach and a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports specialist.

Board member AnnaMarie Knorr thanked Harmon for the dedication and long hours spent finalizing the budget.

“Thank you for the transparency you provide, really explaining where the money comes from and where it’s slated to go,” Knorr told Harmon. “I think it’s really important for the community and the staff to see that.”

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting in-person to provide comments and feedback.

To comment, attendees should complete a request form upon arrival at the Board Room entrance.

Following the public hearing, the Board will immediately continue with their regularly scheduled meeting.

Other hot ticket items include Board of Trustees appointments, a new teacher support program grant and retiree recognition.
