On Wednesday evening a Maricopa Wells Middle School student, Paige Lopez, suffered a severe asthma attack. She was taken to Desert Banner Hospital in critical condition; however she passed away on Friday.
Lopez was an 8th grade student at the school, and her mother, Leia, is a paraprofessional at Maricopa Elementary School. There are also family members at Maricopa High School.
Counseling services will be provided by the district’s crisis management team to assist those students and staff members at the various schools who have been impacted by this tragic event.
More details will be forthcoming as they become available.
