The City of Maricopa has an early present to put under your tree! Just in time for the holiday rush, the City announces the opening of a brand-new United States Contacted Postal Unit (CPU). It’s conveniently located inside the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center and is now open and ready to serve the public Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As long-time residents know, until now Maricopa had only one post office. The staff there are well loved and appreciated for their many years of high quality and efficient service. Now it’s time to continue that tradition and expand to meet the needs of this growing city.

As an emerging city, it was clear the needs of the community had outgrown a single post office. The new CPU will not only help alleviate the lines, but also divert some of the traffic away from the west end of Maricopa.

“Its location spreads out the traffic that moves around the town. All the customers coming to original post office contribute to the congestion on 347. Traffic there can be heavy and challenging to get through. So, this is definitely a welcome addition to provide some relief.”- Becky Check, MLCC Administrative & Retail Services Supervisor

This is a rare arrangement the city was able to negotiate with USPS. While there is high demand around the country for more post offices, Maricopa is one of the few spots fortunate enough to land this scaled down location. It’s city-owned and operated, with six part-time staff members who are also cross trained to work at the MLCC.

As a CPU, the new center will offer many of the services as the full post office, with the exception of a few features including P.O. Boxes. USPS packaging is available with the price of shipping, and additional packaging material is available for purchase. Here’s a detailed look at what the new unit has to offer:
