An excessive heat advisory that was in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday has been canceled by the National Weather Service.

Slightly cooler temperatures are expected today, thanks in part to outflow winds from distant thunderstorms over Northern Mexico, according to NWS.

Temperatures are not expected to exceed warning levels again through the weekend allowing the warning for Saturday and Sunday to also be canceled.

Clouds were visible over the skies in Maricopa in the morning and rain was reported early this morning in Casa Grande and in some locations in the Phoenix area.

With average temperature of 98.3 degrees Fahrenheit, August tied with July 2009 as the hottest month ever in Phoenix.
