PARENT: Be part of solution in charter school focus

2154

Have you heard about the upcoming changes to our MUSD schools? What do all of these changes mean to your students? Do you know what your school will be changing next year?

There are a lot of exciting and important changes and decisions being made at all of our schools within the Maricopa Unified School District. As a fellow parent I cannot stress how crucial it is for parents to be involved in these changes. It is important for us to use our voices to speak up on behalf of our students and ensure their academic needs will be met. In working together with the schools, amazing things will happen when more parents are involved.

Most of the changes that will be happen will depend on parental involvement for the program to succeed. When more parents are invested in what the schools are doing, success is inevitable. As a parent to students in three MUSD schools I can tell you, without a doubt that you get out of it, what you put into it.

I am excited to be a part of these changes and be a part of the planning process. It has saddened me to see little to no other parents in attendance at the academic focus meetings. My goal, at all three of my schools, has been to ensure that MUSD raises the bar and addresses the academic needs of our accelerated learners. I am pleased to say our school leaders have been listening.

I encourage and even challenge parents to find out what changes will be happening at your schools. Find out when the next academic focus meeting will be and do what you can to be there.

It’s an exciting time and there is a lot to be done over the next few months. Those of you who will have a child moving up to a new school need to ensure you are going to those meetings at the new school. Our students will be faced with many new choices and we as parents need to be informed so we can help our students make the best choices. While at these meetings, please find out how you can be a part of the new and improved school.

When we all work together – school staff, students and parents – there is no stopping the great things that will happen because of those partnerships.

Let’s do this fellow parents. Let’s step up and work toward a brighter future for MUSD. When we are a part of the solution, we are no longer a part of the problem.

Join me and talk to your school staff to find out when the next meeting will be. Let’s overwhelm them with a packed house of enthusiastic parents ready to help make a positive change.

(The MUSD school board is scheduled to discuss the different focuses for the district’s six charter schools tonight.)
