Maricopa High School is showing off its $12.2 million Performing Arts Center.

The public is invited Thursday to the grand opening, which starts at 4:30 p.m. with tours of the 35,000-square-foot facility, which includes seating for 750 people and state-of-the art lighting and audio systems.

“As the largest venue of its kind in Maricopa, this grand opening is not just for our students, staff and parents, but for the entire Maricopa community,” said MHS Principal June Celaya. “The space is open for public use, in addition to performances being held by schools throughout the district, and we’re inviting the community to celebrate the opening.”

The recently completed center, which is a focal point on the MHS campus, will be showcasing everything from performance art and oil paintings to graphic design and music from high school students. Tours will be followed by performances, including by Native American tribal dancers, and a ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m.

“From construction to completion this has been an amazing project to see come to fruition,” said Maricopa Unified School District Deputy Superintendent Ember Conley. “Not only is the center a new avenue of education for our students, but it’s also become a pillar of our community and a place for residents to come together.”
