A woman, who initially told officers she was not involved in a parking-lot collision that caused total-loss damage to another vehicle, eventually acknowledged that she was the driver at fault and was arrested, police said.

Sarah Beira was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and false reporting to law enforcement, police said.

At about 9:25 a.m. on Dec. 16, Maricopa police were called to Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, 21467 N. John Wayne Pkwy.

Police reported that a 2008 Toyota van and another vehicle, that sustained total-loss damage with deployed airbags, had collided.

Officers contacted Beira, but when asked about the incident, she initially denied driving the van and said she was only walking in the area, police said.

According to the probable-cause statement, a passenger in the van stated Beira was driving and had caused the collision.

Beira later admitted to driving the van and apologized, police said.

Police reported that Beira never has had a driver’s license, which resulted in a 20-day impound of the van she was driving.
