How we can have peace in uncertain times

762

We are living in a generation in which people need real peace more than ever.

Each week I meet people from all walks of life. I have been serving the Lord since 1974 and have never seen folks living in fear and uncertainty like I have today. Part of the explanation is something that we all are aware of. Our great nation now has a weakened economy with high unemployment, and, to top it off, we are experiencing political instability. It is affecting almost everyone.

To fix our national problems will take great effort, time and most important, prayer! However, there is an answer from God’s Word for every person. The answer is so simple that some may struggle with it. Here is the answer to “how can I have true peace in my heart?”

First, God wants to have a relationship with you. That is the very reason that he sent his son into the world and then on to the Cross of Calvary. He wants you to be able to go to Heaven and be with him one day.

There is, however, a problem that you must be made aware of. His word tells us in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” You see, God hates sin, but he loves sinners. This means he truly loves you and because of this He has provided a way for you to be saved and forgiven so that you can go to Heaven one day.

Second, Christ, God’s Son, died on the cross to pay for the penalty of your sin. You may ask, “What is the penalty of sin?” The answer is found in Romans 6:23, that says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Wages here means payday. That means if we die without being saved we will face a payday for our sin. That payday is a spiritual separation from God forever in an awful place Jesus calls “Hell.” He does not want you to go there!

The rest of Verse 23 has the answer for you to escape this place: “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” It is the gift of God! If we get what we deserve, we receive the “wages” of our sin. God wants you to have His gift. It is eternal life with him.

Third, you must be willing to believe God by trusting his son, Jesus Christ, as your personal savior. In order to do this, you must admit that you are a sinner and then call upon him. You must ask Jesus for salvation: “If any man hear my (Christ’s) voice and open the door (to your heart), I will come into him (you) …” Revelation 3:20. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
