Pima Butte hosting Locks of Love hair donation event

Although it is not essential to life, hair plays an important part in the lives of many, and the staff at Pima Butte Elementary School is looking to bring the joy of hair back to a few children who lost it with the school’s third annual Locks of Love haircutting ceremony this Thursday.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

The school holds the event once a year in conjunction with a character promotion program they run for the students, according to teacher and event organizer Jamie Mimran.

“This month the character trait is caring and what better way to show you care than to help out someone in need,” she said.

Those interested in donating must be able to give a minimum of 10 inches of non-bleached hair.

Hair donors will receive a complimentary on-site styling done by staff from Maricopa’s Great Clips salon.

All are welcome to come out to the event, but school staff request that anyone interested in donating hair call in advance.
