McClaren, Taylor also in sheriff’s race

Seven candidates have filed for Pinal County sheriff, not five as previously reported.

A list from the Pinal County Elections Office of candidates running for office who had filed by Wednesday’s 5 p.m. did not include Jack McClaren, a Republican from San Tan Valley, or Kevin Taylor, a Democrat from Maricopa.

Both will run in the Aug. 28 primaries.

The other sheriff candidates are: Derek K. Arnson, Republican, San Tan Valley; Paul Babeu, Republican, San Tan Valley; Tom Bearup, Republican, Queen Creek; Glenn Millsaps, Democrat, Coolidge; and Tyrone Morgan, Independent, Florence.

In keeping with Arizona’s resign-to-run law, McClaren resigned Wednesday as constable of the Justice of the Peace court in Apache Junction. The justice handles smaller criminal and civil cases and the constable enforces the court’s warrants and other orders.

McClaren has 18 years of law enforcement experience.

He was born in Phoenix and moved to San Tan Valley in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1980 and was honorably discharged.
