Thursday afternoon Desert Wind Middle School Principal Renita Myers sent out the following message to all Desert Wind parents:

"Dear DWMS Parents/Guardians –

"This afternoon two police officers worked with one of our students on a situation that resulted in a short lockdown of the school. This situation has been completely resolved and DWMS students were not in danger.

"Later this afternoon a threat was found on a bathroom wall of the school stating that the school would be bombed next week. Police were contacted immediately and they are investigating. The school has been searched and nothing suspicious has been found. Classes will follow a normal schedule tomorrow and there will be additional police presence. The two situations that occurred this afternoon are not connected to each other."

According to Superintendent Steve Chestnut, two DWMS students have admitted that they were responsible for the threat which was intended as a prank. "The students never intended to make a bomb of any type. Both students have been disciplined according to the Maricopa Unified School District discipline policy. Parents/guardians are asked to remind their children of the seriousness of this kind of behavior," he said.
