It’s just a couple weeks until Thanksgiving, so we thought we’d ask what kind of celebration folks are planning amid a nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases.

We received 162 votes in our informal poll, which asked “Are you scaling down your Thanksgiving plans this year?” We gave you three responses: “No, we will celebrate like any other year”; “Yes, we will have a smaller gathering”; and “Yes, just immediate family and Zooming with relatives.”

More than half – 56.2% – said this will be a Thanksgiving holiday like any other. People who said they were scaling down to some degree represented 42.9% of the respondents. Saying they were having a smaller gathering was 16.7% while 27.2% said they would celebrate with immediate family only and perhaps Zoom or otherwise connect with relatives from afar.

In a Facebook post promoting the poll, most comments aligned with our poll results, with some variation of “No.”

“Nope!” wrote Linda Hubatsek.

But Cher Cendejas-Pence said her family celebration will downsize this year.

“Yes,” she wrote. “Hoping to just go out and eat and then take a nice family walk.”
