PRL Advisory Committee looking at full agenda for tonight’s meeting

On Tuesday’s agenda for the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Advisory Committee are plans for next month’s Salsa Festival, a recreation town hall, a potential dog park and engineering services for Discovery Park. The group will receive updates on recreation and sports programs, the summer swim program and the library. Discussion will begin on both Open Space and Library Master Plans. The agenda follows:

3.0 Agenda Items

Items on the agenda are open for citizen input. Please fill out a card and present it to the Committee Chair before the meeting begins. The Committee Chair will call upon you for your comments.

3.1 Minutes Update. Committee will review and approve minutes from the February and January 2007 meetings.

3.2 Welcome New Member. Committee will welcome Dominic Bailin to the group. Mr. Bailin was recently appointed by the City Council to fill the term that David Aviles resigned from.

3.3 Salsa Festival. Committee will discuss plans, date of the event and discuss the direction of the 2007 event.

3.4 Presentation of 2007-2008 Budget. PRL Director Martin McDonald will present the fiscal year 2007-2008 budget to the committee for review and feedback before a final recommendation to City Council is made.

3.5 Recreation Town Hall. The PRL Committee shall discuss hosting the 2nd Annual Recreation Town Hall at a date and time to be determined.

3.6 Development of a Dog Park. Committee will listen to an update on the Dog Park Task Force by committee member Theresa Farley.

3.7 Review Proposal by J2 Engineering. Committee will discuss and recommend approval of the scope of services proposed by J2 Engineering to develop and design a site plan, cost estimate and presentation material for Discovery Park.

3.8 Discussion Regarding Summer Swim Program. Committee will review and discuss the 2007 Summer Swim Program, a joint partnership between Gold Medal Swim School, Maricopa Rotary Club and the City of Maricopa.

3.9 Discussion Regarding Management of Rotary Pool. Committee will discuss and make a recommendation to the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department regarding the potential of managing and operating Rotary Pool during the summer swim season.

3.10 Open Space Master Plan. Committee will discuss the benefits of creating a Parks, Trails and Open Space Master Plan.

3.11 Library Master Plan. Committee will discuss the benefits of creating a Library Master Plan to help begin the initial planning of a new library as well as expansion possibilities of the current Maricopa Community Library

3.12 PRL Coordinator Updates. Committee will hear updates from the Recreation and Sports Coordinator.

3.13 Library Update. Committee will hear a brief update on library activities and pursuits from Library Assistant Kevin Drinka.

3.14 Future Items/Calendar. Committee will discuss future meeting topics.

4.0 Call to the Public

The procedures to follow if you address the Committee are: The Parks, Recreation and Library Advisory Committee requests that you express your ideas in five minutes or less and refrain from any personal attacks or derogatory statements about any City employee, a fellow citizen, or anyone else, whether in the audience or not. The Committee Chair will limit discussion whenever he/she deems such an action appropriate to the proper conduct of the meeting. At the conclusion of an open call to the public, individual members of the Parks, Recreation and Library Advisory Committee may respond to criticism made by those who have addressed the Parks, Recreation and Library Advisory Committee may ask Staff to review a matter, or may ask that a matter be put on a future agenda. However, members of the Parks, Recreation and Library Advisory Committee shall not discuss or take legal action on any matters during an open call to the public unless the matters are properly noticed for discussion and legal action.
