Crews will begin work on a $3 million road improvement project on a section of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway next month.

Gilbert-based Hunter Contracting Company will be installing turn lanes, drainage improvements, and landscaping near the future site of The Home Depot, said city spokesperson Monica Williams.

Shoulder work on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, between Stonegate Road and Santa Rosa Parkway, is slated to begin March 1 through July 26, the city website states.

Westbound traffic will be restricted as crews conduct roadwork.

The purpose of the project is to “enable growth and economic development in the area,” Williams said. Home Depot’s site plan shows plans for multiple retail and restaurant spaces.

The $3 million project includes drainage improvements, turn lanes, driveway access across the large drainage easement, Williams said. Lanscaping and amenities will “enhance the beauty of the area and provide connectivity to future regional trails.”

“These public projects will not only serve Home Depot, but also future phases of development that will occur in the area, and will be a great asset to the public for many years to come,” Williams said.
