The Maricopa High School girls’ volleyball team suffered defeat at home on Tuesday in a five-game loss to the Bears of Coolidge High School.

The Rams lost 25-14, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 and 15-9 in front of a raucous home crowd.

The loss brings the Rams’ overall record to 1-3, while the Bears improved to 1-2 on the young season.

The match turned in game four when the Rams’ six-point lead evaporated amid a flurry of scoring by the Bears.

Strong serving by Tabitha Hoctor and scores keyed by the powerful hitting of Arielle Fife and Stacey Turley boosted the Rams to an early game lead.

However, the Bears were able to slowly chip away at the lead and were finally able to capitalize on a few unforced errors by the Rams. Eventually, the Bears would go ahead at 23-22 and never again relinquished the lead.
