Maricopans who commute to the Valley for work faced a new obstacle Monday morning.

At 5 a.m., northbound traffic on State Route 347 shifted onto the shoulder in the area of Old Maricopa Road, about two miles west of I-10, to allow for paving work in the area, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Drivers cannot make a left turn onto Old Maricopa Road during this phase of construction, which is expected to last through mid-July. Drivers can continue on SR 347 to northbound Interstate 10 and exit at Wild Horse Pass Road to access Maricopa Road.

ADOT recommends motorists allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through highway work zones.
