As Sequoia Pathway Academy readies for the 2013-2014 academic year and the implementation of the new Common Core standards, a new expansion is about to take place.

The school recently purchased an additional 2 acres west of the current campus and construction will begin this spring.

“I am very excited for my students and teachers as they will be given many new opportunities for learning due to the expansion of our current campus,” said Rachael Lay, principal kindergarten-sixth grade.

The school will add 11 new classrooms, a full size gym with wooden flooring and bleachers, a science lab for the high school and a new library for the entire student population. The school’s PTO is in the process of purchasing a Smart Board with response clickers to provide full Internet access for the library.

Jon Gentile, principal seventh-through-12th grade, said he is looking forward to the changes underway for next year.

“I’m really proud that we started with 12 kids in an online high school and have been able to grow into what we are and are able to continue to grow to offer more opportunities for the community,” he said.

A weight room and home economics classroom are on tap as well.

The school is at 19265 N. Porter Road.
