The hype over a new football coach at Sequoia Pathway Academy was still fresh when the school — which jumped out to a disappointing 0-4 start — canceled the rest of its football season.

Sequoia Pathway won’t compete for the remainder of the football season due to a low number of students, according to Robb Floco, athletic director for Sequoia’s parent group, Edkey.

“It also didn’t hurt we had a few injuries earlier in year as well,” Floco said.

The school made the “educated decision” for the safety of student-athletes and the program’s future to nix the remainder of the season, according to Floco.

The school will look to build the program “from the ground up” starting next season.
