Have you noticed the street signs changing color in Maricopa?

The city has been dumping its old green street signs at major intersections over the last few weeks. They are being replaced with newer, brown ones that feature the city’s logo.

This isn’t a new project. The replacement signs are part of the city’s regular maintenance, according to city spokesperson Monica Williams.

“When signs age, they are replaced,” Williams said. “When moving from the green to the brown signs, we do it one neighborhood at a time based on age to ensure consistency in the neighborhood.”

The brown replacements were originally discussed in 2017 work sessions at City Hall and were originally funded through a $430,000 grant funded by the Highway Safety Improvement Program, which required them to be either green or brown.

“As of now, replacements are included in our ongoing maintenance budget,” Williams said. “All new signs are brown.”
