Building permits up at year’s end

2012 ended with an uptick in the number of single-family building permits issued by the city.

Thirty-five permits were issued in December, an increase of 12 from the previous month.

The increase appears to be another installment in a jagged recovery.

In January 2012, only seven permits were issued but that number increased every month until May when 42 permits were issued.

Then a summer lull hit.

Starting in June, the number of permits kept dropping until August, when only 21 permits were issued.

September, October and November were a mixed bag, with 27, 15 and 23 permits issued, respectively.

This average for permits issued per month for 2012 was 23.1. In 2011, the average was 10 permits per month.

The good news is that 312 permits were issued for the year versus 120 in 2011.
