Slow down or you could be the subject of a DPS photo

Maricopa commuters who travel each and every day into the Phoenix metro area should be aware that DPS has their photo enforcement cameras in place.

In accordance with the recently passed state law to expand photo enforcement statewide, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, as of Oct. 22, 2008, activated the following stationary cameras on the valley freeway system:

EB I-10 Palo Verde Road
EB I-10 Miller Road
EB I-10 Watson Road

SB SR-101 Bethany Home Road
SB SR-101 Olive
SB SR-101 Indian School Road
SB SR-101 McDowell Road

EB SR-101 75th Ave
EB SR-101 59th Ave
EB SR-101 35th Ave

At the end of this week the following stationary photo enforcement camera sites will be activated:

SB SR 51 Bethany Home Road
SB SR 51 Highland
SB SR 51 Thomas Road

WB I-10 40th Street
WB I-10 24th Street

EB I-10 16th Street
EB I-10 15th Avenue

WB US-60 Gilbert Road
WB US-60 Mesa Dr
WB US-60 Alma School Road

In addition, there are currently nine mobile photo enforcement units deployed statewide.

The Department of Public Safety has three criteria for placing photo enforcement cameras along the freeway:

• Construction zones
• Freeway transition areas where two or more freeways merge
• Areas where a high number of serious injury/fatal collisions occur when the primary or secondary cause is related to speed
