Speeding violation on Stanfield Road yields 144 pounds of marijuana

    On Saturday, July 16, at approximately 11 a.m., a member of the Pinal County Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a white 1995 Oldsmobile four-door sedan traveling northbound on Stanfield Road for a speeding violation. The sedan was occupied by a total of five occupants, one of whom was a three year-old female sitting on her mother’s lap.

    The officer received information from the driver, identified as 22 year-old Leon M. Lopez of Casa Grande, that the vehicle contained a large quantity of marijuana. All occupants were removed from the sedan and a search of the sedan’s trunk area revealed six bundles of marijuana, the combined weight of which was 144 pounds.

    Lopez and Shayna Sophia Francisco, 19, were arrested and charged with:
    • Possession of Marijuana
    • Possession of Marijuana for Sale
    • Transportation of Marijuana
    • Child Abuse

    Both suspects were transported and booked into the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department Adult Detention Center in Florence.
