Free soccer clinics offered

The Maricopa High School boys varsity soccer team will present its second annual Friday Night Clinics under the Lights the next three months.

The team is offering the clinics 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15, Nov. 22, Dec. 6, Dec. 20, Jan. 10 and Jan. 17 on the high school football/soccer field.

The clinics are organized by Cortney Kellenaers, varsity head coach and director of coaching for Barcelona AZ of Maricopa. The clinics will be run by the varsity athletes.

Any youth player age 4-13 (8th grade) can attend. High school soccer T-shirts can be ordered at the first clinic. Purchase of a T-shirt gets any youth player into home games for free.

Little League registration underway

2014 Maricopa Little League registration for baseball and softball currently is ongoing.

Registration can start online, but parents will need to show a player agent proof of their child’s age and residency. The documents can be emailed to [email protected]. Or, check the website for open registration dates at local stores and coffee shops.

Maricopa Little League will provide each player with a hat, shirt and socks. In addition, there will be clinics for all the T-ball, machine pitch, minors and majors players.

Below is a breakdown of the divisions by age and gender to help with the registration process. Please note the ages listed below refer to “League Age.” For boys, this means their age as of April 30, 2014; for girls this Dec. 31, 2013:

• T-ball: ages 4-6, co-ed
• Machine pitch: ages 6-8, co-ed
• Challenger: ages 4-21, co-ed, special needs only

Registration for T-Ball, machine pitch and the Challenger Divisions will close Dec. 31. The season typically runs mid-January through mid-March. Registration fee for T-ball and machine pitch is $75 per player; there is no fee for the Challenger Division. 

• Minors baseball: ages 8-10
• Minors softball: ages 8-10
• Majors baseball: ages 11-12
• Majors softball: ages 11-12

Registration for minors and majors will close around the end of February. The season typically runs mid-March through mid-June. Registration fee is $100 prior by Dec. 31, then increases to $125.

• Junior baseball: ages 12-14
• Junior softball: ages 12-14
• Senior baseball: ages 13-16
• Senior softball: ages 13-16

Registration for juniors and seniors will close around the end of April. The season runs May through June. Registration fee is $100 by Dec. 31; then $125.
