If you drive Maricopa’s busiest thoroughfare, you may want to watch your speed a bit more closely and stay off your phone in the coming weeks.

City police will be out along State Route 347 to enforce traffic laws from Monday to Friday and through the month of May.

Officers will be looking for common violations, including speeding, using a cellphone without a hands-free set-up and following other vehicles too closely.

The department will step up enforcement activities with support from a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant.

The goal of the campaign is to reduce the number of collisions and near-collisions along SR347, the department said.
