Starbucks closure only temporary, so don’t get steamed

Diehard Starbucks customers in Maricopa will have to go elsewhere for their caffeine fixes when the city’s only freestanding store — and only drive-thru — on North John Wayne Parkway closes Jan. 2.

Remodeling work will last from then until Feb. 15, pending no construction delays.

So, if you haven’t seen the signs already posted around the store, you’d better make alternate plans to meet morning Joe before it’s too latte, er, late.

The last time Starbucks closed for just half a day, InMaricopa readers were steaming hot and frothing at their mouths with frustration. A medical emergency in the store’s drive-thru Oct. 23 shut the store down.

A food delivery worker at the restaurant said, “The baristas were all crying and they closed the store.”

Reporting the emergency became one of InMaricopa.com’s top five stories of the year. Facebook posts got ugly with nearly 300 comments.

Not all is lost in Baristaville, Starbucks faithful. You can still vente your anger in lines at the Starbucks shops inside the Basha’s and Fry’s supermarkets on John Wayne while the solo store gets a facelift.

The only drawback is you’ll have to get out of your cars to do it.

“This will put an unbearable burden on the grocery store locations,” local resident Wendy Smalley predicts.
