Pinal County Vice-Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Pete Rios, will co-chair a bi-partisan forum intended to address the fiscal problems that will face the Arizona in 2010.

The Governing Arizona Project will hold the Governing Arizona Forum for Leaders on Tuesday, Nov. 17, in Phoenix. The forum seeks to bring leaders from government, business and Arizona communities together to discuss bi-partisan ways to address the state’s budget crisis.

“I am not only pleased, but deeply honored to be co-chairing this forum with Secretary of State Ken Bennett,” Rios stated. “This will be one of 12 educational forums to be presented by the Governing Arizona Project.”

The forum has invited Arizona legislators and constitutional officers to meet with leading scholars from across the country to better understand the state’s fiscal woes by taking a historical look at past budgets.

Rios, the District 1 Supervisor, said that bi-partisanship is needed if Arizona is to have a balanced budget doing the least amount of harm.

“The Democrats and Republicans have differing ideas on how to solve the state’s budget problems,” he said. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that one is better than the other. But by working together for a compromise that Governor Brewer can sign, I foresee that Arizona cannot only survive, but prosper. It’s going to take all sides to come together to see the facts and numbers to develop a fiscally sound budget.”
