Former school board member disappointed in present board

I am not here to beg for anyone’s job. It appears that ship has sailed.

I am here to talk about confidence, or lack thereof, in the district leadership. Our district has just suffered its fourth failure at an override. Not for lack of effort by the political action committee, but there is a lack of confidence that Maricopa Unified School District can live within its budget.

We now have what appears to be a vote of “no confidence” by the MUSD Governing Board toward the Superintendent. Hmmm. I believe I have lived this movie before. It is important not to point fingers, when one points a finger there are always three pointing back.

As always, the board has more information than John Q Public and was given the confidence to represent the community. It is hoped that the board will act in the best interest of the educational needs of the community. I, for one am not confident that is happening.

Our district seems to take two steps forward and three steps back; there has been no long-term consistency. Are decisions being made using this rubric: What is ethical, what is legal, what is right for kids?

Since January, more meeting time has been spent in executive sessions and “spitting matches” over a board/superintendent operating protocol. Staff and student accomplishments aren’t acknowledged as much.
