“Truth in Taxation” and budget public hearings scheduled for Tuesday’s special council meeting

In a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening, the Maricopa City Council will hold public hearings relative to the primary property tax increase and the city’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Council will receive an update on the North Santa Cruz Wash Regional Flood Control Solution and will discuss and possibly take action on the purchase of the Peed Property. The agenda follows:

4.0 Public Hearings

4.1 Truth in Taxation. In compliance with section 42-17107, Arizona Revised Statutes, the City of Maricopa is notifying its property taxpayers of the City of Maricopa’s intention to raise its primary property taxes over last year’s level. The City of Maricopa is proposing an increase in primary property taxes of $2,431,339 or 100%. For example, the proposed tax increase will cause the City of Maricopa’s primary property taxes on a $ 100,000 home to increase from $0 to $320. This proposed increase in exclusive of increased primary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter approved bonded indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.

4.2 FY 2006-2007 Final Budget. The City Council shall hear public input relative to the FY2006-2007 final budget.

Consent Agenda. All items listed with an asterisk (*) are considered to be routine matters and will be enacted by one motion and one roll call vote of the Council. There will be no separate discussion of these items unless a Council Member or member of the public so requests, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered in its normal sequence of the agenda.

5.1 **Professional Services Contracts. The City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving contracts with Integrity Floors in the amount of $28,920.67 for the provision of carpet installation at the Interim City Hall Facility. Discussion and Action.

5.2 **Professional Services Contracts. The City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving contracts with Code Electric in the amount of $62,544.00 for the provision of electrical services at the Interim City Hall Facility. Discussion and Action.

5.3 **Professional Services Contracts. The City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving contracts with Sako, Inc. in the amount of $30,358.07 for the provision of interior remodeling at the Interim City Hall Facility. Discussion and Action.

5.4 **Resolution 06-26. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona urging the State Legislature to add language to Title 9, Chapter 4 to allow a municipality to delineate on a map specific land for future right of way. Discussion and Action.

5.5 **Resolution 06-.27. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona urging the State Legislature to amend the requirements for annexations within a municipal planning area by eliminating the existing contiguity requirements. Discussion and Action.

5.6 **Resolution 06-.28. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona urging the State Legislature to change the school district formula for funding schools and utilize the student population rather than the actual population for calculation purposes. Discussion and Action.

5.7 **Resolution 06-.29. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona urging the State Legislature to allow consumers to place a security freeze on their consumer reports. Discussion and Action.

5.8 **Resolution 06-.30. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona supporting the development of a uniform and prompt process for checking the criminal backgrounds of volunteers. Discussion and Action.

5.9 Resolution 06-31. A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, adopting the budget for the fiscal year 2006-2007. Discussion and Action.

5.10 Purchase of Land. The City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on exercising the option to purchase approximately 138.5 acres of property located at the northeast corner of SR238 and Rachael, known as the PEED property. This would complete the purchase of the Peed Property. Discussion and Action.

5.11 North Santa Cruz Wash. The City Council shall hear an update on the North Santa Cruz Wash Regional Flood Control Solution. Discussion.

The Maricopa City Council may go into executive session for purposes of obtaining legal advice from the City’s attorney on any of the above agenda items pursuant to A.R.S.§ 38-431.03 (A)(3).
