Tyler Mejic thanks Maricopa for making his dream come true

Sixth grader Tyler Mejic might be quiet and a bit shy, but he dreams big. He was recently nominated to participate in the Junior National Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., during the week of September 24 (see related story).

His desire to further his leadership experience and to learn about history in our nation’s capital also comes with a price tag. His tuition for the program is $1800 plus airfare, food money and some new clothes. None of the 30 attendees from across the nation will be allowed to wear jeans, so Tyler will have to make some additions to his wardrobe.

Over the past few weeks, Tyler, his single mom Jennifer Williford, family friends and neighbors have held two car washes at Bank of America. The last one two weeks ago brought in a little over $300. Donation cans are at Bashas’, Curves and Maricopa Mountain Plumbing. Bank of America is still accepting funds for an account opened in Tyler’s name. Tyler’s mom can be contacted at 568-8382.

Tyler’s final car wash will be this Saturday at CVS Pharmacy.

Seeing that his dream will very possibly come true, Tyler had this statement for Maricopa and all its residents. “Thank you all so much who have donated money and time for me. You all have made this dream a reality and made a big difference for me. Going to Washington, D.C. to learn more about history and politics will make me so happy.”

“Thank you, thank you,” Tyler continued. “Because of this community my heart is so much bigger. In the future I want to, and hope I can, help everybody else.”

Tyler offered a special thank you to Trails End Realty and Investment, located in the Big Red Barn in Maricopa, who donated $500 toward making his trip happen.

“I can’t believe the support and love in this community. Thank you. Thank you from our hearts,” said Tyler’s mom, Jennifer.

This Saturday, July 9, is the final benefit car wash for Tyler. It will be held at CVS Pharmacy on West Smith-Enke Road from 8 a.m. until noon.

Next Monday, July 11, Tyler will speak to the members of the Maricopa Rotary Club, asking for their support. You can be sure he won’t be shy or quiet about his desire to make his dream come true.
