Football fundraiser Tuesday to honor Ariel Lara and Alex Sesma

An Alex and Ariel Memorial Flag Football game fundraiser will be held Tuesday in honor of Alex Sesma and Ariel Lara, who were tragically killed in an automobile accident on May 8. 

The lives of the two young people will be celebrated on the football field they played on at Maricopa High School on Tuesday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m.

There will be two 40-minute games played by both a girls’ and a boys’ team. Similar to the Powder Puff game, the students of Maricopa High School will be playing flag football. The event will also include performances by the band, dance team and cheer squads. Between the girls’ and boys’ games, there will be a throw and punt challenge.

Tickets to the event will be $3 for students and $5 for adults, with any and all donations appreciated. Concessions will also be on sale. All proceeds from this event will go to the Sesma and Lara families to help meet expenses.

Community members, friends, family and students are encouraged and invited to come out to the game to show their support for the former students and their families.

Note:  A memorial service will be held in the Maricopa High School gymnasium on Friday, May 14, at 6 p.m. to remember Ariel Lara and Alex Sesma. The Lara family would like to thank the community and the school family for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Several efforts are being sponsored throughout the community to help both the Sesma and Lara families, including the memorial flag football fundraiser.
