The Maricopa High School varsity baseball team bagged its first win of the season Tuesday in conference play.

“It feels great to have this first conference win under our belts,” said Charles Barbee, MHS baseball coach.

The team trailed Safford going into the eighth inning but, thanks to some timely hitting, was able to come away with the 8-7 victory.

The player of the game was senior Cody Seymore, who went 2 for 4 at the plate scoring three times and driving in one run.

“Cody is a great player and is drawing interest from several colleges,” Barbee said.

Up next for the Rams is a road game against conference opponent Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz defeated the Rams 6-2 in their last match-up.

“I look forward to a tight game and hope we can pull it out in the end,” Barbee said.
