Santa Cruz pupils perform musical lessons on life

64

The second- and third-grade pupils at Santa Cruz Elementary taught the rest of the student body about gratitude, imperfection and responsibility today during a singing assembly.

Led by their music teacher, Mary Goldner, individual pupils introduced each song with a background or reference to the song’s meaning. During the song “Gratitude Attitude,” a group of pupils lined up and told the crowd what they are grateful for, including their teacher, pizza, movies, pets and weekends.

In between the life lessons pupils also proclaimed their love for pizza in the song “Pizza Love” to the tune of “My Girl.” A group of pupils donned chef hats and danced with pizza boxes at the front while the rest of the group performed choreographed movements to go with the music.

Also in the lineup were songs about being American and taking responsibility for one’s actions.

Every pupil in attendance was invited to join in for the last two songs when the second- and third-graders sang the “Santa Cruz Rap” and “Santa Cruz School Song.”

The pupils will perform again at 6 p.m. for those friends and family unable to attend the morning show.
