Afterschool Program’s Success Creates Demand for Tutors

Maricopa Unified School District began its 21st Century Afterschool Program in 2000 to provide a safe and structured environment for kids after school hours. The program, directed by Julie Jimenez, has grown to accommodate 200 kindergartners through 12th graders each day.

With the increased numbers of kids comes an increased demand for adults. The program is looking for both academic tutors and enrichment instructors to help, as the program’s site coordinator, Kim Calderone, said “enhance their academic world and provide new opportunities for growth.”

A bilingual program aide position is needed as are certified tutors in the areas of Reading/Writing and General Math/Algebra/Geometry. In addition, Afterschool is hiring enrichment instructors for people who “have a hobby or passion they would like to share with students.”

Afterschool Academic Tutors
4-6 grade from 3:30-5:00pm (M-Th) (starts January 2005)
7-12 grade from 2:15-3:15pm (M-F) (needed immediately)
Reading/Writing Specialist (Certified)
General Math/Algebra/Geometry Specialist (Certified)
Bi-Lingual Program Aide (Classified)

Tutoring positions are designed to provide academic assistance to students in their subject area of need as determined by eligibility requirements for athletes and for those non-athletes who fall below or approaching standards category or those referred by their day teacher. Rate of pay is $18/hr for certified and $10/hr for classified.

Afterschool Enrichment Instructors
4-6 grade from 3:30-5:00pm (M-Th) (starts January, 2005)
7-12 grade from 3:30-5:00pm (M-F) (needed immediately)

Do you have a hobby or passion that you would like to teach our students? MUSD is in need of enrichment instructors for these age groups. MUSD supplies all materials. Guitars and flutes are already in inventory, just waiting for instructors to share their talents with the wonderful students. Rate of pay is $18/hr.
