Maricopa police once again arrested a career criminal with more than 70 criminal charges on his record Friday afternoon. This time, he’s accused of beating his wife, trying to steal a car and resisting arrest.

Cops arrested 48-year-old Shawan Harris on counts of domestic violence assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage and resisting arrest.

Officers responded to an argument on West Cowpath Road in Senita just before noon, according to a probable cause statement. While police were en route, the 9-1-1 caller reported Harris slammed his wife’s head in her car door.

Police found Harris sitting in a car and told him to get out. He refused multiple times and fought against officers who tried to grab him.

Cops tased Harris, who continued resisting on the ground until he was tased a second time.

Harris’ wife said Harris was drunk, started a fight with her and broke her two computer monitors and laptop before he went outside to steal her car. She said Harris slammed the car door on her head.

Harris faces nearly seven years in prison.

InMaricopa previously reported Harris’ involvement in shots fired on his street last summer. Even though he was caught in the commission of a felony — a convicted felon possessing a firearm — MPD did not charge him.

Three months ago, he was arrested after threatening to shoot his stepson.

Harris was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery and felonious assault in Ohio in 1997. He pleaded guilty to the felonious assault in a plea deal and the other charges were dropped.

He was charged with drug trafficking and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted drug trafficking before moving to Arizona. He was also found guilty on multiple counts of domestic violence, threatening and harassing someone over the phone, seven counts of criminal trespass and reckless endangerment.

In Ohio, he was charged twice with burglary and faced more charges for theft in Graham County, Ariz., in 2014. He has been charged dozens of times for displaying fraudulent license plates, driving without a license, driving uninsured and failing to register.
