Co-captain Jasmine Melvin led the Rams in scoring, with major contributions from Caitlin Snow and Arielle Fife, as the Maricopa High School girls’ volleyball lost at home in straight sets (25-23, 25-10, 25-19) to Globe High School on Tuesday.

The Rams jumped out to an early first game lead behind the strong serving of Erin Litchfield, who scored two aces, and setter Stacey Turley. However, the Rams began to suffer a rash of service errors, as they gave up four straight points to end the set.

Regular starting setter Tabitha Hoctor was not in attendance at the game, her family having left town for fall break. In her absence, Turley attempted to lead the Rams, but the second set found the Rams committing numerous unforced errors as they came out disorganized and flat.

After jumping out to a quick three-point lead in the third set, the Rams again began to commit unforced errors, as they allowed the Tigers to slowly extend their lead. Although a late set rally did occur, the deficit was too much for the Rams to overcome.

With this loss, the Rams’ record falls to 2-8 overall, 0-2 in regional play. The Tigers improved to 6-5 and 1-1 in the region.

Next up for the Rams is a road match at Coolidge High School (2-6, 1-1) on Thursday, Oct. 9.
