A driver ended up in the hospital after flipping a car on its roof, according to Maricopa police.

The single-vehicle crash happened on North John Wayne Parkway earlier this evening.

Maricopa Fire and Medical Department was dispatched to the wreck just north of Cobblestone Farms Drive and south of Lakeview Drive around 6 p.m.

The driver exited the vehicle without help, according to Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the city’s emergency services. The driver, whose age and sex were not released, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was cleared from the road by 7:20 p.m., leaving behind its bumper snagged on a rock cage in the middle of the road.

    • The median is already pretty wide right there, I don’t recall ever hearing about any head-on collisions due to someone flying completely over it and into oncoming traffic prior to the “beautification” project. On the contrary, there have been multiple accidents since then where people have smacked into these stupid caged rocks and caused more damage than they would have otherwise. A simple guard rail would have been way cheaper, safer, and more effective if the concern was actually about drivers crossing the median there, but I’m certain that never even crossed anyone’s mind while they dumped these piles of rocks into the median and called it art. Now we need that guard rail installed anyway to protect people from the “beautification” project.
