Elementary students complete Academic League second round

Maricopa Unified School District continued its fourth annual Elementary Academic League with competitions on Feb. 23.

Host schools for this round were Butterfield, Pima Butte and Santa Cruz Elementary Schools. Friends and family members were in the audience at each site to support the fourth and fifth grade students on the panels. 

Each grade level panel collaborated in an attempt to earn points for their team before “buzzing in” to give the answer to the question posed to them.

Results for the first round of competition:

Pima Butte vs. Maricopa Elementary:

4th grade total points:  Pima Butte= 29, MES= 9
5th grade total points:  Pima Butte= 28, MES= 14
 
Santa Cruz vs. Santa Rosa:

4th grade total points:  Santa Cruz= 27, Santa Rosa= 9
5th grade total points:  Santa Cruz= 24, Santa Rosa= 16
 
Saddleback vs. Butterfield:

4th grade total points:  Saddleback=18, Butterfield= 14           
5th grade total points:  Saddleback=25, Butterfield=11

b. 10, 20, 30
c. 1, 5, 15
d. 10, 15, 51

6. Name the state that is also a peninsula.

The next Academic League competitions will be held on March 23, hosted by Butterfield, Santa Rosa and Saddleback Elementary Schools. The final competition on April 27 will be at Butterfield Elementary School.
