A 14-year-old car burglary suspect learned at a young age early Tuesday morning what you get if you try to outrun Maricopa police tased two times.

A suspicious person report from a neighbor at 3:24 a.m. in the 42500 block of West Corvalis Lane in Glennwilde led officers to the scene. There, they found “a male subject walking in the neighborhood.”

“When the officer attempted to stop the subject, the male fled on foot,” police spokesperson Monica Williams said. “A short foot pursuit occurred, and a supervisor arrived on scene to assist. When the subject attempted to jump into the backyard of a nearby home, the officer successfully deployed his taser, with both probes ejecting. That resulted in the double pop sound, which was recorded on a resident’s home video surveillance cam.”

The double pop, which sounds like a handgun, can be heard on a video that neighbor Michael Traversino released to InMaricopa yesterday afternoon. Imagery provided to InMaricopa by MPD shows the taser was deployed as the teen tried to climb over a residential wall.

“The male subject fell into the backyard, where he was quickly arrested by officers,” Williams said.

The teen was later found in possession of property from nearby unreported vehicle burglaries, according to police.

He was booked at the Pinal County Juvenile facility yesterday. Because he’s a minor, his name won’t be released by authorities — although an InMaricopa poll last week found most residents would like to see the accused teen driveway terrorizers be named.

In recent weeks, Maricopa residents reported at least a dozen run-ins with late-night car burglars, some clad in creepy clown masks. Two teenagers were already arrested this month on similar charges.
