Maricopa High School varsity soccer had solid openings for the season Tuesday.

The boys had a 4-0 home victory over McClintock. Senior Brandon Ortega and freshman Kevin Vasquez scored in the first half. Vasquez scored two more goals in the second half for his auspicious debut with the Rams. Ortega had two assists. In net, Mario Gastelum had seven saves to keep the Chargers scoreless. Starting Saturday, the boys will be in the Coyote Classic Tournament.

On the road, the varsity girls also defeated McClintock, 5-1. Freshman Lexy Rowe scored two goals for the Rams. Junior Saneya Cowing, junior Payson Hacker and senior Bianca Olivares also scored a goal apiece. Senior Mackenzie Ford had 13 saves at the net. The girls next play in the Coyote Classic Tournament starting Dec. 4.
