Housing permits decline from 57 last July to 8 this year

The city of Maricopa’s recent lull in building activity continued as only eight permits were issued in July for new single-family home construction.

The eight permits issued tie the annual low, which was in February.

The eight permits issued for July 2010 is a decrease of 49 permits from the 57 issued in July 2009.

For the calendar year the city has averaged nearly 21 permits a month, and for the fiscal year, which runs July to June, the city has averaged 8 permits per month.

The city of Maricopa sets its budget partially based on the number of permits it issues. This fiscal year the city budgeted with expectations of an average of 30 permits a month.
