Local business owner Joe Hoover announced today he is pulling out of the mayoral race.

“I will not pursue the mayoral bid,” Hoover said. “It is not a good fit for me right now. I will focus on some other things in the community at the citizen level. There are different grassroots functions that need support.”

Hoover said he had resigned from the Heritage District Citizens Advisory Committee to run for mayor, but now plans to get back on that board. He currently serves on the Maricopa Domestic Water Improvement District board.

Hoover said he also wants to stay focused on operating the Legacy Montessori School, which he owns with his wife, Carol. The Hoovers opened the school in 2003.

Hoover served on the first planning and zoning committee before Maricopa was incorporated. When the city was incorporated, the committee became a commission and Hoover was eventually named chairman.

The two remaining candidates in the mayoral are financial planner Christian Price and current city Councilmember Carl Diedrich.
Primaries will be held March 13 and the general election is May 15.
