Life Teen youth group focusing on fun and faith

It’s not about sitting in a chair for an hour and a half and memorizing Bible verses.

It’s about fun, learning and helping teenagers to discover themselves, and that is the message Patricia Garcia wants to spread about the Our Lady of Grace’s Life Teen Youth Group.

The group meets once a week with a focus on fun and faith.

Most recently the teens gathered 360 pounds of clothes to donate to the Maricopa F.O.R Food Bank. They also held a beach party.

“We were going to donate the clothes to St. Vincent DePaul but, since there is not a branch in Maricopa, decided to keep it in the community,” Garcia said.

The group is also looking for new members.

“We want to get the word out there that this is here, and it is a good outlet for teenagers,” Garcia said.

Garcia added, “The group is open to all ninth through twelfth grade students, and many of the issues we deal with are things that students that age are going through.” Those issues include dating, peer pressure and other obstacles.

The group’s next activity will be a Fall Festival on Oct. 12.

“It will be a great opportunity for the kids to socialize in a positive environment,” Garcia said.
