A man injured in a fire Friday evening on West Edwards Circle received burns to 30 percent of his body but is in stable condition at the Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire crews responded to the 44000 of West Edwards Circle just before 8 p.m., Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Jon Sheaffer said in an email. A travel trailer was engulfed in flames and a man was found behind the trailer near a patio area.

Fire department officials said the man had burns to his face, chest, hands and feet. He was taken to the Maricopa Medical Center’s burn unit for treatment.

Sheaffer said after crews searched the structure, they switched to a more defensive strategy to protect a nearby mobile home.

Eddie Rodriguez, a fire investigator for the department, said the cause of the fire could be related to an improper connection between a propane cylinder and barbecue grill.

Rodriguez said this is what the man told firefighters and that information was passed to him. Rodriguez said he was able to locate the propane cylinder but not the grill.

He has not been able to speak to the man yet because he is recovering, but said he will do so as part of his investigation.
