Maricopa Elementary parents view curriculum and school improvements

Maricopa’s three elementary schools all held curriculum nights on Thursday, September 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Maricopa Elementary was pleased to show off its nine, newly repaired classrooms to parents who came to review the materials and curriculum their children will be learning this year.

Principal Lynnette Michalski was on hand to meet parents and to answer their questions. Earlier in the week, she stated, “I really hope we have a good turnout Thursday night.” From the look of the crowded parking lot, she got her wish.

During the event classrooms were open, and teachers were available to discuss the curriculum and the instructional programs. The evening was devoted to visiting with parents and sharing information with them about their children’s school.

The classrooms that had roof and water damage from the monsoon winds last month are all back in use. “Students and teachers have returned to their classrooms without missing a beat of teaching or learning,” according to Michalski. The school also has new wrought iron fencing and landscaping. Additional, new playground equipment has been ordered and should arrive soon.

Maricopa Elementary’s motto, “Mastering Educational Success”, is demonstrated by its goals for the year. They include assisting all children in achieving at or above grade level in reading and writing, developing math skills that will meet or exceed state standards, incorporating technology in classroom instruction and increasing parental involvement in the school.

In an effort to promote involvement in the school and the students’ activities, Maricopa Elementary School is having an informational meeting on starting a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) this year. Parents are invited to meet in the school library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, to find out more about the PTO.

For additional information or questions, contact the school at (520) 568-6102. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Maricopa Elementary School information is also posted on the district’s website.
