The Maricopa Fire Department is holding a community meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 43546 W. Blazen Trail, the site of a house fire that occurred last week in the Senita community.

This is the start of a new MFD program in which it will hold meetings after every significant event to inform neighbors and the local community about the incident and provide safety tips.

The incident commander, public information officer, assistant fire chief and members of one of the crews on scene of the fire will participate.

“Residential house fires are significant events that have a tremendous impact on the lives affected,” MFD spokesman Brad Pitassi said. “This meeting will review what steps people can take to avoid a fire through fire prevention education. We will review what happens after the fire, what services are available to residents and what we provide as a fire department during the crisis.”

Pitassi said attendees of the meeting will learn about strategies and tactics the department uses to protect life and minimize property damage.

He said the idea‘s inspiration came from the London Fire Brigade.

“Fire Chief Brady Leffler and Assistant Fire Chief John Storm are very excited to implement this process here in Maricopa,” Pitassi said. “It's an excellent opportunity to review major incidents within the city and provide an opportunity for the members of the community, especially in the neighborhoods directly impacted, a chance to speak with the firefighters and command officers that responded to the event.”

The goal of the department is to help educate the community to prevent an incident like this from happening in the future.
