Maricopa Wells Middle School was put on lockdown for 25 minutes Tuesday evening after students reported seeing a gun near campus.

Maricopa police spokesman Ricky Alvarado said Tuesday evening that juveniles with a BB gun were near the school and no one was hurt.

A Wednesday news release sent from school district Superintendent Steve Chestnut states the campus was on lockdown from 5:40 p.m. until 6:05 p.m. Students and parents were on campus for a science fair scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The fair was still held when the lockdown ended.

The release states that Maricopa Wells students reported the situation to school staff.

The police investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
