Brittany Rimer is done with high school and heading for Central Arizona College.

The 2008 Maricopa High School graduate finished the year with a 3.88 grade point average.

Rimer received scholarships from the University of Arizona and Central Arizona College but decided to go to CAC.

“Tucson is just so far, and I am not ready to move away from home,” she said.

While in high school, Rimer was heavily involved in the drama club and eventually became its president.

“I love to act,” Rimer said.

This year she received an award for the best thespian, the top award for an actor or actress from the school.

Rimer said she originally wanted to major in theater in college, but had a change of heart due to an experience that occurred earlier in the year.

“I was diagnosed as being bi-polar,” Rimer said.

When they diagnosed me, it was one of the worse times of my life, and I went through a lot of hardship, Rimer added.

As a result Rimer wants to be a psychiatric nurse so she can help people deal with what she went through.

Rimer is the youngest of three sisters and completed all four years of her education at MHS.

The teacher who had the most influence on Rimer was Carrie Vargas, who recently resigned from teaching drama.

“If it wasn’t for Mrs. Vargas, I don’t know if I would have made it,” Rimer said.

Rimer offered encouragement for those who have yet to graduate.

“Do your best and just try to enjoy your time at school,” she said.
