Last-minute win Friday; Youth Night this week

Victory came down to one point in the last minute of the game Friday.

With 60-seconds left and Gilberts Campo Verde Coyotes ahead 20-14, Rams quarterback Caleb Buck's pass was intercepted by the Coyotes, but Maricopa High School’s defense was able to hold Campo and force a 4th-down punt with less than 30 seconds left.

The snap to Coyote punter Austin Wells was bad, and he scrambled for the ball and was brought down on the Campo Verde 2-yard line.

Kentrell Coleman of the Rams dove into the end zone, tying the game.

The extra point kick by Conner Staehs was good, and the Rams had the lead with about 13 seconds left. The Coyotes attempted a long pass, which was intercepted by Chauncy Hayslip to seal the game for Maricopa.

The first half belonged to the Rams, who went into the locker room at halftime leading 14-0. However, penalties in the second half hurt MHS until the final minute of the game.
