Rams trounce Titans 35-7

Franshua Avila had two interceptions and caught two touchdown passes Friday night, leading Maricopa High School to a 35-7 road win over Arcadia.

Overall, the Rams (3-3) forced six Arcadia turnovers and sacked the Arcadia quarterback six times. They scored four touchdowns in the first half on short drives set up by takeaways and a smothering defense.

After Avila’s first interception, Maricopa drove 39 yards in five plays, the final one a 24-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Buck to Kendric Garcia for a 7-0 lead just 3:25 into the game.

In the second quarter, an Avila punt rolled to the Arcadia 9, where the Titans fumbled on the first play from scrimmage. Two plays later, the Rams took a 14-0 lead on Kentrell Coleman’s 6-yard run.

After the ensuing kickoff, Arcadia had the ball just four plays before fumbling again at their own 20. The Rams scored in three plays, Buck hitting Avila with a 19-yard scoring toss to make it 21-0 with 4:31 left in the half.

Maricopa got the ball back with 1:52 remaining at the Titan 45 after a punt. Five pass plays and 49 seconds later, Buck hit Avila again for a 17-yard TD and a 28-0 lead.

Maricopa made it 35-0 on a 72-yard TD pass from Buck to Tim Byrd at the 4:42 mark of the final quarter.
