MHS takes 2nd in CAC math contest

Maricopa High School placed second at the 34th Annual Central Arizona College High School Math Contest.

The event was held at the Signal Peak Campus on Thursday, April 15, and featured 600 students battling for top math honors. Over 62 MHS students competed in the contest.

Rewards included medals, peer accolades and hamburgers on The Green following the event.

Students competed in pairs as a team to solve problems in three categories – Level I (algebra), Level II (Algebra II and geometry), and Level III, which encompassed a potpourri of mathematical problems.

Schools received five points for first-place finishes, three for second and one for third.

Sara Troyer and Jenna Davila won the Level 1 team competition, which consisted of 75 teams.

After the qualifier, David Westermayer, Trista Eckert, Victoria Piceno, Cole Davis, Cara O’Neal, Karissa Browning, Karla Munoz, Carson Rose, Tony Shum and Jaden Warren qualified for the individual competition. Most of these students placed in the top 25 individually in the competition.
